The Town of Smoky Lake respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on Treaty 6 Land and Regions 1 & 2 of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Land steeped in rich Indigenous history and the traditional homeland and home to First Nations and Métis people today. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of First Nations, Métis, and all First Peoples of Canada, whose presence continues to enrich our community.
Men's Shed
"Somewhere to go. Something to do. Someone to talk to."
A Shed is symbolic of that backyard shed in the neighborhood where men would gather to swap stories, share the news, and perhaps even work on old cars, boats, broken bikes, or electronics, etc.
A Men's Shed provides a safe and friendly environment where men can work on meaningful projects. Men work at their own pace, in their own time, in the company of other men.
It's a place where you can learn or teach new skills and find new opportunities and interests while making new friends. A Shed offers men an alternate way to connect with each other, while giving back their community.
It is a place where experiences collected over a lifetime are utilized, witnessed, appreciated with respect. Members cross age, religion, social status. None of that matters in the Shed.
If you are a retired plumber, electrician, computer technician, chef, doctor, or explorer of lesser-known arts and are willing to share, you are welcome!
Let's deal with the "Men's" part of the name. Why in our inclusive-minded society, are Men's Sheds exclusively for men?
Men need male companionship and support for life's challenges, in the same way, that women need female companionship. Men's Sheds allow socializing to be delivered in a way that will enable men to cope positively with their masculine social needs in these changing times.
